1. Yarn Valet 57104 Winder Green

Yarn Valet 57104 Winder Green

A lightweight tool is used to pull yarn balls. Inside the compartment there are crochet hooks, stitch markers, a pen or even small scissors. You can organize the mess into balls or bags to fix the skein that has fallen apart. Measures approximately 2” length, 10” height, and 2” width.

Brand: Yarn Valet

👤I should have paid more attention to it. A plastic tube is what it is. You can use a used up toilet paper roll to do the same thing.

👤I think they could come up with a better design if they went back to the drawing board. The only way to get it is to go to the website and watch a video. I tried to keep my hooks in the base, but the cap kept coming off and dumping them in my lap. This is a great idea, but lacks follow through.

👤I didn't find it useful. The yarn wouldn't catch in the slots at the tip, and I've tried several different weight yarns. If you are using Tunisia to make an Afghan, the valet isn't long enough to fit all your crochet hooks or knitting needles. I couldn't justify the price. It isn't a practical valet. I would give it an extra star if it was a bit longer, wider and the notch on the end actually held the starting yarn in place. It feels like a child is learning how to crochet or knit. I like the idea but the execution is not good.

👤A very nice product. I can't make a center feed ball by hand because I have wound yarn in my hand. This machine worked wonders. I made a center feed ball from the skein I was using. Skeins collapse when a lot of yarn is used. This fixes the problem. Thanks for a useful and easy product that does what it says it will do. I took a break without losing what I'd already hurt. I can recommend this product.

👤One of the many chores that homemakers were expected to take care of was making threads and yarns on a distaff. Where was this when I started knitting and crocheting? It is now easy to Winding balls of yarn.

👤I had never seen a yarn ball winder like this before, but it looked like it would work well. When I tried to wind the yarn into a ball, it was so tangled that I couldn't. I put the yarn on the swift and turned it over. The yarn valet was able to get in and out of the yarn. My niece loved untangling the yarn. She was taken for 30 minutes. I would recommend this to everyone. The first hank of yarn came from different yarn companies. I get tangled when dyeing yarn. I think I'll get a lot of use from the yarn valet.

👤The bottom comes off when I lose my grip on the yarn. I end up with a ball of yarn after the yarn tension loosens. I went back to making the yarn by hand. I can put it in a yarn bowl and it will work. It's ugly.

👤I watched the video on the website when I received the yarn ball. It was very easy. The first ball I made was a round ball and I quickly learned how to make the cake shape and bowl shape with the yarn bowl. Some people said the end cap would fall off, but mine does not. I don't have anything I want to keep in it. I like this product. It made quick work of 13 balls of yarn.

2. Operated Machines 4Pompom Knitting Scissors

Operated Machines 4Pompom Knitting Scissors

Care instructions. Machine wash gentle and tumble dry. It's easy to marry. The Yarn Ball Winder is a small and light weight. Plastic and alloy are 22 cm and 3.3 cm. Keeps yarn taut, so it can be turned into balls. You can easily winds up to 100 grams or 3.5 ounces of yarn, from lace and fingering weights to worsted and bulky weights. Four different sizes of doughnuts: 1.4 - 1.8 - 2.5 - 3.4 inch. It's easier to make pom poms with green, blue, pink, and yellow. When you shake the machine, it will make low noise. A great gift for friends and parents, as well as for kids and adults. Easy to use: Attach the metal table clamp to any table edge or surface up to a thickness of one inch, twist on the guide arm and start winding! These nifty gadgets don't require much to assemble.

Brand: Ayasee

👤I took a star away because it won't last long since the plastic gears are already grinding. It's great for the price because it doesn't hold super-well on a table with a little curve on the edge. It makes great yarn balls. You can save a lot of money on this thing. It makes nice cake-style balls which are stack, have an inner and outer end to use, and get less floppy with yarn usage. The pom-pom makers are very good.

👤The box was damaged when the item arrived. I set the winder up and didn't think about it. I didn't get a 2 ounce ball wound, the gears stopped grabbing, and no matter which direction I turned the handle, nothing happened. The device is easy to set up, but it just wasn't going to work. The replacement will be better if I submitted for a return.

👤Don't buy this item. The yarn gets tangled up in the gears. The entire thing falls to the floor if the yarn holder comes flying off or the device isn't secured well enough. And the tool? It was barely wide enough to fit over a half inch. I spent more time untangling it than I did winding it.

👤It works better than the $50.00 one from Joanns. It was hard to find a table top that was thin enough to fit on my closed laptop. I had yarn burns on my fingers trying to control the yarn in my electric one.

👤Medium weight half skeins are the best. Less bulky yarn will be used. A yarn will break if it gets stuck around gears. If you are stuck around gears, you will have a complete headaches. It won't fit full skeins, so it's not really worth it. I had to untangle several knots of yarn in the middle of my projects.

👤Poor design by Piss. The yarn is wrapped around the gears. The yarn got tangled in the gears while my fiancé helped me with tension.

👤It was terrible when I could get it to work. I spent most of my time untangling yarn from the exposed gears. I had to use a thin cutting board to anchor the table. It won't hold a whole skein of yarn, so it's pointless. The pompom makers and other extras were missing so this hunk of plastic junk will be going back.

👤It's easy to use winds. Balls can't be larger than this. It was easy to assemble and operate. If you don't find the lock spot on your winder, you will get stuck in the gears. I love it!

👤The yarn guider is not staying up. Keeps flopping. It was very frustrating. Not worth the money.

👤I gomitoli dalle bobine. Un po leggero e delicato da usare. Comunque consigliato.

👤It serves its purpose. The yarn hold can only fit on a thin platform.

3. LAMXD Needlecraft Operated Capacity Including

LAMXD Needlecraft Operated Capacity Including

Fix the swift winder on the desk, tighten up the button, and let the yarn go through the wheel and into the ball. The pull thread balls have a capacity of 100 grams to 4 ounces. The Ball Winder can be protected for years with the Unbreakable Metal Crank. Excellent fit for home use, low noisy design, table gear inside the ball winder. You can take it anywhere you want with the portable package. There are 8 sizes of crochet hooks, including many soft handle hooks.

Brand: Lamxd

👤Simple to put together, easy to read instructions, and a quick work for getting yarn organized. This was an excellent business purchase because I have more space for my yarn. I'm glad I stuck with the small skeins.

👤I decided to start working on a yarn ball winder because I had been putting off various projects. It is amazing how simple it is to make a tedious task so efficient. It is also very calm. The box was destroyed. It had a bubble wrapper to hold it, but it looked like someone ripped the box open and returned it. This is not the seller's fault, but the fault of Amazon shipping. The items appeared to be in a plastic container. I didn't do a return for a new item. You can set up the system by twisting the knob in the side and sliding the metal brackets onto your surface. Slowly turn the handle clockwise, after threading the yarn through the metal feeder, and then sliding it into one of the plastic spaces in the middle. Go slowly. My daughter helped me work on yarn balls. Initially, you feel like it is ok to go fast, but we found that the yarn will slip under and get stuck into the teeth that turn the base. If you start to get a hang of the yarn, tension and machine, you can pick up the speed. It becomes a lot easier to make balls. This is a very basic winder and it works great.

👤I was able to wind it all back up quickly after my puppy got into a ball of yarn and tangled it up. I didn't put 5 stars because sometimes it gets jammed or slips the yarn out of place and since there's no tension it balls it up really loose.

👤Everything is included in the video. I usually don't come back in the first day unless I'm very disappointed. This is not the lowest priced one on Amazon and I expect a higher quality litter. I have to use my hand to hold it all the time because it can't be locked. If you are using medium and above weight size yarn, the base would not work well.

👤I decided to test it after getting it. Works well. It's fine on my kitchen table, but it could be a bit bigger. I didn't notice any rough spots with the crochet hooks. I wasn't expecting a pair of thread scissors.

👤It is easy to use. I don't have a swift, so that could be part of the problem, but the main issue is the fact that the yarn guide doesn't lock into place and therefore caused quite the mess underneath the winder when it fell over. The gears ate up a bit of yarn. I took two skeins to it, but I'm not sure if it's easier to do on this or my thumb, but it's convenient. I'll probably keep using it if my husband or father can't figure out how to tighten the yarn guide for me. I'll likely use the husband as a yarn guide guardian if not. If you're willing to purchase a swift to maintain tension or ease of movement, I recommend it. I might get a swift to reduce the risk of lost yarn.

4. INTAJ Rosewood Yarn Winder Handcrafted

INTAJ Rosewood Yarn Winder Handcrafted

Nagina International has a brand new brand new nautical kitchen home decor gifts and collectibles. The Yarn Winder is large enough to wind up to 450g of yarn. The Yarn Winder is handcrafted by skilled artisans in India. Rosewood is the highest quality wood. The winder is unique and affordable. Anti-skid rubber pads and anti-friction bearing on the spool side of the winder give it super smooth winding and prevents it from sliding or scratching your table. The yarn has a fingering weight of 450g. The yarn can be created by using the hand crank to create skeins of yarn.

Brand: Intaj

👤This product is poorly designed and made. Some of the "good" reviews seem to not realize that cakes are supposed to look different. The return shipping was $81 on the request for a refund. The ball is oblong, doesn't use the whole spindle, and my issues were many. The common direction of spinning knocks the nut off the spinner handle. It's not anti-threaded. The knob doesn't spin so as you wind, you have to let it slip in your hand, which is tedious and impossible. If it was the only problem, I could have replaced it with a solid pin. The spiral metal pin is used to hold yarn. It isn't secure. After one gentle spin, the wood began to shave off at the screw port. It doesn't cake the ball for center pulling and makes a painful pink and white spaghetti bowl from my first skein when trying to knit hands-on. The board is hammered in threads for the parts which causes a lot of issues. I can only get my money back if I pay return shipping to India, which is more than the cost of this poorly designed winder. I used a cheap plastic one for comparison. I did commercial yarn for this experiment, but I wanted a sturdier item for constant winding. This isn't it. There is no way this wouldn't destroy my handspun.

👤It was received in the mail today. The wood looks better than the plastic ones I've seen. Beauty is nice, but it works as well. I was able to use my yarn bowl because I wound a skein of yarn into a center pull. I don't think most people are smart enough to not let your yarn flop all over the floor at the end. I would definitely buy this product.

👤The yarn cakes are messy, the handle on the wheel is not well engineered, and the winder is made from very nice wood. It is a good idea that needs better tweaking so it will be worth the price. The counterweight flew out when I was winding. I'm happy it didn't hurt anyone.

👤This is the first time I have ever used a yarn winder like this. I usually use the little plastic winders. The yarn winder is amazing. It was made with beach wood and it works like a dream. It was easy to assemble. I use my umbrella skein winder to wind my skeins of yarn into a ball. The yarn ball is produced by the tension I use, and the winder stays put and doesn't move. I would highly recommend this yarn winder.

👤I had to drill a hole about an inch to an inch and a half below where the yarn is supposed to be coming out of the arm. The machine worked great once I did that, and I am winding 100 g balls in the picture. It is made of sturdy parts and comes with varnish. The directions didn't mention oiling the spool before attaching it to the arm. A little tweaking in this product would get it five stars. The rubber belt broke after winding 13 such balls, so I have to take the review back to one star.

Brand: Barva

👤It works, but not how you would think. If the ball is sitting around the spindle, the thread won't be able to be wound easily. I propped it up on the spindle and voila! There were no issues that were not resolved.

👤I have a yarn spinner that is made of wood. It's made well, but the center pole is large and some yarn skeins won't fit through it. There's some force as it spins on wood. The yarn spinner model solved those issues. It was made well. It comes with 2 thinner poles which can accommodate different sizes of yarn skeins and balls. The pole has metal that spins inside of a metal slot, which makes it a free spin. It comes with some anti-slip pads, but I find that applying some hot glue around the bottom of the stand works better than using the anti-slip pads. It's worth it even though it costs a bit more than the others. I highly recommend it. If you can afford 2 or more of this yarn holder, get them. I'm happy that I bought 2 of them. I was still working on another project when I started a new one. It would have been difficult to pull out the yarn of a work in process project in order to make new yarn for another project. I could leave the yarn intact of one pole and use another for the second project. When you're working on a project that uses more than one color or type of yarn at the same time, having multiple of this spindle yarn holder is a great benefit. One yarn works better for each spindle.

👤I am not sure why one needs two, but the longer one would suffice. I had to deepen the hole in the stand with my drill. It spins in a hole in the heavy base. I like the weight of the base. Lighter ones tend to move towards you. I wouldn't buy one as a gift because it needed to be reamed out. I wouldn't buy another one for myself because the wood is well sanded, free of cracks, and it is sturdy.

👤I am a crocheter. I've put off getting a spindle because of various other things. I am glad I went with this model after reading reviews. It has two sizes. The larger can hold more than one standard skein. A standard cake can be held by the smaller. If the holder is not perfect, it can pop out, but it spins well. The problem would be solved easily if the base and peg were a little bit longer.

👤I love this yarn. I wish there were individual spindles to purchase, that's the only cons to the many pros. The base is perfect for the spindle to fit on. It does sometimes need lubrication to keep it free-wheeling, but what product like this wouldn't? Lanolin is perfect to keep it spinning.

👤I'm new to holding yarn. The reason for the other ball of yarn is because my yarn ended up on the top or under the base. The yarn wouldn't be able to go under the holder if it was seated further in the base.

6. Operated Machines Knitting Markers Scissors

Operated Machines Knitting Markers Scissors

The yarn can be created by using the hand crank to create skeins of yarn. It's easy to marry. The Yarn Ball Winder is a small and light weight. Plastic and alloy are 22 cm and 3.3 cm. EASE OF USE: The metal table top clamp is easy to install on a desk or bench. Attach it to any table edge or surface up to 0-1.5" thick, twist on the spindle, position the guide arm and start winding! These nifty gadgets don't require much to assemble. Keeps yarn taut, so it can be turned into balls. You can easily winds up to 100 grams or 3.5 ounces of yarn, from lace and fingering weights to worsted and bulky weights. When you shake the machine, it will make low noise. A great gift for friends and parents, as well as for kids and adults.

Brand: Ayasee

👤It was easy to use. It's worth it. There is a knob that tightens and loosens the clamp in this one. You can put something on the bottom to make it stay. The instructions were not helpful. I just watched a video to find help. It does not wind thick yarn like bernat blanket, but it does wind bernat. The cake is small but big enough for my needs and it winds more to a cake than a ball. I think you have to use it to know how much yarn you will get. Even though it was late, I am glad I bought it. This will help organize yarn. The plastic yarn needles and markers that came with it were better than the ones I have bought.

👤There are a lot of adjustments that need to be made while you use the yarn winder. The instructions say that the yarn holder should lock into place. The product was thrown in a broken box. The product has scratches and is dirty. I paid for a new product, not a used one. The seller quickly responded to my message. They gave me a partial refund because of the situation.

👤The metal yarn guide is collapsible and it falls over when I'm trying to wind. When it falls, it throws the yarn into the gears. I don't understand why it's loose, as it doesn't become more compact. I'm going to try to rig it so that the guide is held firm, but I'm wondering if I'd have to do that if I'd spent more money on a winder.

👤At first, this seemed like a great idea. I spend more time unraveling the yarn ball because of issues. The feeder loop always collapses when I use it, because the table clamp can never hold enough to stay in place. The yarn is tangles around the base. It was poor constructed and cheap. If you want a yarn baller that is better made, buy a different one.

👤It's easy to set up and use; empty TP / paper towel roll fits well on the spindle. The yarn it makes is called TINY. This is ok for hand-work on the go, but you will need a bigger jumbo one for machine knitting.

👤This product helps in giving you a neater look to your yarn collection, as you have been stuck with loose Skeins of Yarns. The gears begin to slip when the spool is full. This is the time to start another ball. This machine makes it easier to do it manually.

👤You are better off winding your yarn by hand. Most of the yarn ends up in the middle of the ball because the arm holding it won't lock. I will probably return it.

👤It took a few minutes to set up the guide. It works well and saves hours winding fine yarn. yarn isn't stretched and tension is good.

👤I bought this to convert balls of yarn to cakes to make it easier to make an intarsia pattern. The Ball winder suddenly started slipping on its gears and not moving despite hand winding the yarn. It looks cheap. I apologize for wasting my money.

7. Lacis Jumbo Yarn Ball Winder

Lacis Jumbo Yarn Ball Winder

Nagina International has a brand new brand new nautical kitchen home decor gifts and collectibles. The yarn ball winder is called LACIS-Jumbo. The package includes a jumbo yarn ball winder, instructions, and two swing arms. Attaching to a table.

Brand: Lacis

👤I have had a Stanwood Needlecraft a Jumbo Yarn Winder for a couple of years but decided to give this one a try. This will be an honest comparison of the two. They both have the same size cone. The Lacis have two swing arms, while the Stanwood only has one. The yarn guide on the Lacis is made with 3 pieces belt and a nut and bolt. The Standwood's has a rubber ring on top of the washer and wing nut to keep it from scratching the surface wherever you mount it. The Lacis has a small turning handle that you can only grab with 2 fingers. The Stanwood's handle is large enough to hold your whole hand. The main assembly of the Lacis is completely enclosed in a plastic housing, while the Stanwood's gears are not. The Lacis has a mounting foot of 1x2 inches while the Stanwood's is 2 1/2 inches in diameter. The ball of yarn created by the Lacis was adequate, but on the Stanwood it was much cleaner. There is a significant price difference between this and the Stanwood. It will serve you well if you can afford it. The Stanwood seems better to me and I don't plan on keeping it. Don't purchase this one either.

👤This is what I needed. I had bought a new winder from a local store and put a roll of recycled toilet paper over the cone to wind smaller amts of yarn on it, but I really needed something like this. I decided to look for every one I could find because some yarn is too much to make an electrical one. I wanted something that would handle partial skeins and this worked out for me and the price was less than others that do the same thing. I wrapped a strip of plastic bag around the cake to keep the outer end contained and wrote details on the "wrapper" when I put the winder to the test.

👤I found the instructions to be sufficient if I paid attention to the pictures. There were no instructions on how to wind yarn. Here are a few tips after winding a dozen balls. 1. Make a small knot with yarn on the end. It helps pull the inside end to the ball. 2. You should wind your yarn slowly. There is a perIOD. 3. If you are winding regular store yarn, you should pull from the center of the needle. 4. While winding, make sure your yarn doesn't wind too tightly. Continue to wind it if you need to, pull several yards of yarn out and drape it. 5. Don't waste time winding Red Heart. It makes a mess. If it's for a small project, it's okay to use a small amount of winding. Smaller finished balls of yarn are better for you. I split a 250 skein of yarn into two balls, and I have been happy. I keep the finished balls in freezer quart bags. I keep the skein wrapper inside the bag after I write the info on the white tag. 6. Swift is a table top yarn. I know it will make it easier to wind yarn. It will be my next purchase, but I don't have one yet. 7. If you have a kitchen pull-out cutting board, you can use the ball winder on it. There are 8. Take your time. If it frustrates you, walk away. There are 9. The yarn should flow through your hand before it enters the machine. I've caught them before they get to the yarn guide. 10. Do not force theINDER. I can see how some of them broke quickly. 11. I had to file off part of the bottom edge so it wouldn't screw onto the base. A rasp did the job quickly. It was an easy fix and I decided not to exchange it. There are 12. If the winding handle catches on the plastic piece used to attach the winder to a table, pull-out cutting board, or other object, then move it until it no longer catches, or find a different surface to attach it to. I put my original yarn ball in my plastic laundry basket because my favorite place is my pull-out cutting board in my kitchen. I can pull out a lot of yarn, and it doesn't touch the floor.

8. Stanwood Needlecraft Hand Operated Winder 4 Ounce

Stanwood Needlecraft Hand Operated Winder 4 Ounce

The yarn swift is a workhorse. They have used the swift yarn with different yarn weights from lace to Aran, and wound scads of skeins of everything from crochet cotton size 10 to a heavy worsted, and it's worked for all. When using the top handle, it can rock a little, but nothing to make you discard it. You can reuse the yarn from sweaters from thrift shops. 60" hanks were created by unraveling the sweater directly to the swift. Center-pull balls are made. The Royal Ball Winder is a good choice. Unbreakable metal object. One year warranty.

Brand: Stanwood Needlecraft

👤I have been considering buying a yarn winder for a long time and settled on the Standwood. I can tell you that it is worth every penny. I wish I had gotten this two years ago. It took me a while to figure it out. Here is what worked for me. You can sit on a table and be comfortable while you wind. 2. Make sure the metal arm is in place. 3. The end of your skein should be found from the middle. You will end up with a mess. 4. Place your skein behind the metal holder so that it is in a straight line. If you want to avoid knotting when you turn the spool, guide the yarn with your hand. If you apply too much tension, you will end up stretching your yarn. 5. Tuck the end under the yarn when you are done winding. 6. Lift the ball from the spool by grabbing the beginning knot and holding it. 7. Tuck your knot into the middle. It's easy to find when you start your next project. If you are a hard core knitter or crocheter, I would recommend this spooler. I spent the weekend spooling my yarn and it was a complete disaster.

👤The Royal version is very similar to this and is a must have for anyone who wants tidy, compact, center-pull yarn balls. There are a few pointers I'd like to offer when using this winder, after winding at least a thousand of these over the last eight years. 1. Make sure the wire arm is in the correct position. The directions are helpful. 2. If you use a fluorescent piece of duck tape to hold down the start end, you can simply pull it off and around that end. It can be easily found when it's time to use it. 3. If you want to keep the outside wrap of your yarn, fold it up and slide it into the center of your yarn ball. It helps to keep the center stable and it is readily available for reference in the future. Pull it out before using the yarn as it will catch on the yarn as you pull it out. 4. As you are winding with one hand, use the other to hold the tension on the yarn as it goes in. This helps in many ways, including smaller, tighter held yarn balls, quick knot detection, and it keeps the yarn on the spindle. 5. When you begin winding, start slow and increase your speed. The tail of the yarn remains in control if the wind is kept at a steady, smooth pace. 6. To finish, you can either tuck the yarn in the outside or use a crochet hook to pull it into the outside of the ball. 7. This winder does a great job, but like everything, it has its limits - if you put too much on an individual ball, the outside yarn strings will do one of three things, slide off and wrap underneath, catch on the wire arm, or slide off when you pull the ball off 7. Some yarn skeins are best pulled from the middle. The skein will bounce all over the place when you pull from the outside. I've found that placing the skein in a deep mixing bowl on the floor keeps it from gathering debris from the floor as it dances about. Hope this was helpful.

9. Yarn Ball Winder Craft Destiny

Yarn Ball Winder Craft Destiny

The weight is 3.5 ounces and the length is 100 yards. It is easy to set up and get yarn cakes. The Yarn Winder can be used as soon as you get the box. Sturdy with a metal handle and a plastic one. The yarn cakes can be used from the outside or from the center. The metal is sturdy and has a good grip. The table can be attached to it's thickness up to 1 inch. If there is an issue, they will make it right. You can contact them.

Brand: Craft Destiny

👤I love it! It was packaged professionally and came with instructions in English, which were easy to understand and had pictures. I'm happy to say that this one fits on my 2inch thick crafting table, which is a problem with previous winders. The arm that you thread your yarn through stays still and the actual winder rotates, which means there is no annoying knocking sounds or thread coming out of place like other winders. I was able to wind an entire cake of size 3 (dk) yarn on it with no problem and when I took it off of the winder, it did not fall apart or collapse in on itself. I am excited to finally organize my yarn collection, because I love this yarn winder. It's a must have for any yarn crafter, crocheter, knitter, etc.

👤I don't have a lot of room. I have been buying yarn from a company. I love their yarn. I spent an equal amount of time untangling the yarn as I made my item from it. I had a ball of yarn within minutes after receiving this item. The level of frustration was zero. My yarn looks better than ever. I felt like I had to write a review before I started my scarf.

👤The first ball of yarn didn't turn out as well as we would have liked, and we tried to redo it, but I made a mistake. The second ball of yarn was better than the first. The first rule is to go slow and hold the tension on the yarn. It is a learning curve, but it was easy to use. I am very happy that I bought this yarn winder. My mistakes were not due to the wind but because I was not paying enough attention to what I was doing. Would recommend this machine.

👤Thanks to the sellers, this came a week earlier than it should have. The little notions pouch was a bonus gift and was stuffed with knitting things I hadn't had before. The winder itself. You just have to place the arm. It's possible that the living room table could go even thicker from the looks of it, so it's important to protect it. Does not budge a millimeter. It is not the quietest thing in the world. This was easy to use and I ended up winding 3 skeins on my first try, something which would have taken me about 2 hours to do before and now takes 15 minutes, tops. I love it!

👤I saw that this brand cost more, but the picture looked more durable than the others. The others looked flimsy. It looked like the picture showed when I got it. I made 3 cakes from skeins that are 4 ounces and less in a few minutes after I put it together. It wouldn't handle anything bigger than that, but none of them do as far as I can see. The little pack of goodies they send with it are good things that I wanted for my knitting and would have cost me more if I had bought them separately. The yarn holder arm is stable, unlike the other brands. The only thing that worried me was that you have to snap the spindle on it. I was afraid of breaking it, so I used enough force. I got the spindle on and it didn't break. I have bad wrists and this tool is definitely worth it.

👤I decided to treat myself to a few gadgets that make my hobbies easier because I am recently physically disabled. The ball winder was on that list. I was a bit concerned by some of the negative reviews, but was quickly won over by this neat little device. I wanted to address some of the concerns that I saw, such as the box saying "wool" and the fact that yarn is referred to as "wool" in some countries. I paid attention to the time it took to wind one of these cakes up. The size seems to be on par with the other ball winders I have seen. I don't think I would need one bigger. I have used it to fit a 1 1/2” thick bookshelf and a 1/2” thick lap desk, and found it to work well with both. The yarn guide doesn't stay in the locked position very well. If you change the angle of the yarn, it stays the same. I highly recommend giving it a try if you are on the fence about getting one.

👤The device works for me. I've made over 60 yarn cakes with it. I've used it with fingerling. Each cake will be about 250 yards. You can't just put the yarn on and wind. You need to hold the yarn in one hand to guide and adjust tension, and you can wind at a medium speed. The tension bars on the more expensive ones were noticed by me. I found yarn in my Grandmother's attic. The yarn was stuck together and I had to separate it. I now have yarn cakes that make it easy to crochet.

👤You learn. The base is not wide enough to hold a lot of yarn, so eventually you have to watch and make sure the yarn doesn't circle around beneath the base, in which case it gets tangled and it's hard to take out. I was winding about 362 yards. It got filled. Make sure you have a place with a nice lip that is stable. You don't want to put it on a wooden table because it will scratch the paint on it or chip the wood when you tighten it, and you want to tighten it well. It's not the worst. I will know what to buy if I ever buy one again. It was worth the price.

👤The yarn holder where you feed the yarn never worked right, it always banged into the yarn. I used it for the 10th time today, but I had to hold it for the entire time. I am not sure what happened. It stopped balling the yarn correctly, it looked like a warped ball wrapped in a garbage bag.

👤I had a lot of fun with the winder but it is no longer usable after just over a month. I wouldn't recommend this for long term use. The yarn cakes are made at an impressive speed. I just got it and I've been playing with it all day. It was easy to set up with the video in the images. If you pull on the rod well enough, it will stay put, even if the ball pulls it towards it. I wouldn't leave your ball to unroll on it's own as you make the cake because the tension will be too loose and you'll have a soft cake that may fall in on itself. The perfect tension to make a yarn cake can be created by feeding the yarn between my fingers. I'm very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this winder! It comes with extra hooks and markers.

👤I'll lead with buy this. If you're going through a skein a year, don't bother, but more than that and the flaws are worth the benefit. I'm kicking myself for telling myself that this isn't mandatory for 10 years and not spending a lot of money for sanity. After spending every hour of my day winding my own balls of yarn, getting hand cramps, or using yarn straight from the skein, I just bit the bullet. I took out my big tote and made a day of it. The first picture shows a small portion of the cakes on cakes in my bin. The second week was a very cheap amigurumi yarn that defined hard to work with and you can see how the first two worked out. I never had to start over because I had to cut so many snarls out. The star knocked off something. There is a learning curve. I use masking tape on the lose end to make sure the top slots hold your yarn. I don't lose it. You will try to pull it tight and it will slip off and you will have a wobbly cake. It will seem like you won't, but you will get it quickly. Pull the yarn back through the cake until you hit a solid point and try again. It took a few tries to get the over down up thing. You're fine once you get it. The first five tries feel like a puzzle game, but it's one fluid motion. It really does squeak. It's very smooth for a while, then it starts to click a few times, like you're murdering it. I push in on the handle and wait for it to stop, it doesn't affect the yarn, and isn't often enough to not use it. I've tried many things, but nothing. I'm pretty sure they are possessed and it goes back to normal quickly. I thought I was breaking something. Hundreds later, still chugging. Pull this little guy out is the first thing I do when I get yarn.

👤I don't know why I waited so long to purchase this. I never imagined it would work so well. If you want to know how well it works, I will send out a message to the entire county that I live in, offering free yarn rolling services because it makes it fun and fascinating. The male family members in my life were so fascinated by how simple it was and how fast it worked that they all stood around watching. The guide arm needs to be moved and positioned opposite the winding handle to operate correctly. I didn't purchase a yarn swift because I didn't think it needed one. The instructions on the box were written in a way that made me worry that I needed one. I can promise that you don't. I used my left hand to guide the yarn to the floor and then turned the crank with my right hand to make sure it was wound correctly. I had a small box full of yarn that needed to be wound and organized and when I finished it the box was barely half full. I'm going to be more organized. I have created space for more yarn. You can never have enough yarn, right? My husband disagrees with that statement, but nobody asked him. It's a good thing. I can attest to the fact that you can wind skeins up to 100 grams or 3.5 ounces. I wound a skein that was 6 ounces and it did complete it to my satisfaction, however the crank felt heavy as I was nearing the end and I don't recommend going over the recommended amounts. If I had found a review equal to my, I would have made a decision sooner.
